Stocks? Annuities? Mutual Funds? Advice, please!?

I found out yesterday that I own about ,500 worth of stock in a local bank. My dad bought the shares for me when I was a kid, and now that’s how much they’re worth. I’m trying to decide what to do next. I was thinking about selling the stock and putting the money into a CD, because I really don’t trust the stock market all that much. A family member suggested an annuity, and others have suggested more investments. Investing the money in anything but real estate isn’t an option. I just want some advice about my options from someone who knows. Again, I don’t trust the stock market…What’s the best thing to do?

How do you judge if a financial advisor is any good?

I’m interested in a trading type account focused primarily on stock and real estate transactions (i.e. not mutual funds). Are Financial Advisors generally willing to share what types of investments they own and how much money they have made on them in the last few years? How can I find someone who would be willing to share that info?

Best investment diversification for a trust?

I’m looking for something in detail, ways to invest with a limited amount of risk. I prefer to invest in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, CDs, real estate, and possibly other areas, and I’m wondering is there something close to a formula (percentage of each type) that will work best for someone who only wants to put in about 20 hours per week on the work associated with the investments.

short intermidate and long terms goals for personal finance?

Make a list of five short-term goals, five intermediate goals, and five long-term goals. Before you list the goals, think seriously about your current situation. What kind of a financial future do you envision for yourself? What steps will you need to take to reach that future? Consider your present situation, and think of ways in which you can establish financial security.
Once you have completed your lists of goals, think of ways to achieve each of them. It is likely that investing will help you achieve some of your goals, but not all of them. Investments include money market securities, CDs, stocks, bonds, IRAs, mutual funds, and real estate. When you are considering investment options, refer to your course materials. Make sure you understand the risks of each kind of investment. Once you understand each type of investment, think about the timeframe of each one of your goals. Is investment an appropriate way to meet the goal?
Compile your goals and strategies into an outline. Divide your outline with three main headings—short-term goals, intermediate goals, and long-term goals. List each goal under the appropriate heading. After each goal, include a paragraph explaining how you are going to meet the goal. The paragraph should be written in complete sentences. It should include:
•A strategy for meeting the goal.
•An explanation of how you plan to use this strategy.
•Analysis of whether investment is appropriate for meeting the goal.
•An explanation of the type of investment used (if investment is appropriate).

i need help understanding this and what could be examples.!
i will vote best answer (:

Investing in Real Estate and Financials now, good or bad?

My understanding of the global financial crisis is that it was largely brought about by the collapse of the real estate and financial industries.

My understanding of stock market investing in general (not much) is that I should buy stock/mutual funds when they are very low so that I can sell them for profit when they are very high.

Since financials and real estate stock is very low because of their recent collapse I would think they would be a worthy investment right now since they will probably improve later.

This would be investing in mutual funds that specialize in real estate or financials.

What do you think? Would they be good investments? Also, please state your qualifications (if any) to give this kind of advice.

If they aren’t good is there another industry that you can suggest?

Thanks!

Who the hell wants to purchase a 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom for over 200,000$. Does that make any sense whatsoever? I’m looking for at least a 2 bedroom and 1 or 2 bathroom at an affordable price. I am not rich and I make an average income and I have many investments such as an RSP and mutual funds. Will the real estate ever be realistic?
